The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) over the conduct of two officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the Akwatia by-election held on September 2, 2025.

In the petition, signed by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, the NPP named NDC National Vice Chairman Awudu Sofo Azorka and the party’s Abuakwa North Constituency Communications Officer, Abdul Wahab Amadu, as having engaged in acts that threatened public safety and disrupted the electoral process.

The petition cited video recordings in which Mr. Azorka allegedly made threatening comments directed at Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, as well as an incident at the Akwatia Lorry Station polling station where he is said to have physically confronted the NPP’s Third National Vice Chairman, Alhaji Osman Masawudu. The document also alleged that Mr. Amadu issued verbal threats against leading members of the NPP.

The NPP indicated that it has submitted recordings of the incidents to assist the police in their investigations. The party argued that the actions contravened provisions of the Criminal Offences Act and breached electoral regulations and codes of conduct.

In its request, the NPP called for an investigation, prosecution where necessary, and regular updates from the police on the progress of the case.

The petition stressed that addressing the matter promptly would help safeguard electoral integrity and public trust in Ghana’s democratic process.
