NPP's Lydia Alhassan wins Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election

The New Patriotic Party’s candidate, Lydia Seyram Alhassan has won the Ayawaso West Wuogon Parliamentary by-election.

Results of 136 out of the 137 Polling stations certified by the Electoral Commission indicated that she polled 12, 030 votes to beat three other contestants.

The National Democratic Congress, (NDC’s) candidate, Delali Kwesi Brempong of polled 5,279, while, William Doworkpor of Progressive People’s Party and Clement Boadi of Liberation Party of Ghana polled 102 and 17 votes respectively.

According to the Electoral Commission, voter turn-out was 19.62 percent.

Meanwhile, the NPP Chairman Freddie Blay has expressed surprise at the decision of the opposition NDC to pull out of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Parliamentary by-election.

Mr. Blay, in an interview the GNA said the skirmishes, which took place around the La-Bawleshie Presbyterian Primary School 1A Polling Station, was very unfortunate.

“It happens in various elections. Its a pity. Its unfortunate. It happens. But I am surprised that for that reason the NDC has decided to withdraw. Because everything is going on nicely,” he said during his tour of a number of polling stations in the Constituency.
