Deputy Director of Public Affairs in Parliament, Kate Addo, has described the incident of the young man who tried to commit suicide in Parliament yesterday, as an embarrassment to the Legislature.

Speaking on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, she said despite the incident, the integrity of the House remains intact.

Miss Addo gave the assurance that going forward, security will be tightened to forestall some of these incidents.

Kojo Mensah, 35, was arrested after attempting to commit suicide in Parliament. He was restrained after trying to hang himself in the public gallery.

He sat at the public gallery with a rope wearing the T-shirt of Kwesimintim MP Joe Mensah.

As sitting adjourned, he shouted he wants to jump off the gallery to the main floor and was restrained by the security persons.

Commander of the Parliament Police Supt. Freeman Tetteh said a criminal investigation has begun into his conduct. He has been transferred to the Ministry police station.
