The Ghana Grid Company, GRIDCo, is pleading with Power Distribution Service, PDS, to extend the recent blackout being experienced in parts of the country by five more days.

According to GRIDCo, this has become necessary following an interchange project ongoing at Pokuase near Accra.

GRIDCo in a statement said due to the ongoing project, it is compelled to divert its 330 Kilovolts  Aboadze-Volta transmission line at Pokuase to facilitate the construction works being undertaken by the Department of Urban Roads.

The company said the project was supposed to have been completed Thursday but the contractor missed the deadline.

GRIDCo in a letter to PDS asked for an extension of the blackouts by five more days to enable the contractor to complete the project.

The statement said work will be completed on Tuesday, the 19th of this month and asked the public to bear with GRIDCo to serve them better. The outage for the five days period will be from 8am to 6pm.

Meanwhile, Minister of Energy, Peter Amewu says Ghanaians will have to endure the recent power outages for five more days.

This he said is as a result of technical challenges and the construction of an interchange at Pokuase in Accra.

Many parts of the country have been hit with widespread blackout twice this week. Mr. Amewu hopes that the challenges will be rectified within the next five days for power distribution to normalised.

The Minister gave the assurance when he toured some electricity substations and facilities connected to the recent outages.
