President Akufo-Addo urges eligible voters to register

President Akufo-Addo, has urged eligible voters to participate in the Voters Registration, which is in its final stage.

With about two days to end the exercise, the President appealed to those who are yet to register to do so, to enable them to exercise their franchise in December.

President Akufo-Addo said this when he and the First Lady, Rebecca registered for their voters ID card at Kyebi, his Home Town in the Eastern Region.

The Voters Registration is in its final stage and is expected to be completed on Thursday, August 6.

So far more than 15 million people have registered since the exercise began on the 30th of June this year.

President Akufo-Addo and First lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo went through the COVID-19 safety protocols instituted by the Electoral Commission, to ensure the safety of registrants.

When President Akufo-Addo arrived at the Rock of Ages Preparatory School at Kyebi in the Eastern Region, his temperature was first taken, he then washed his hands with soap under running water, after which he was ready to start with the registration process. He presented his National ID card to the electoral officials and provided some basic information such as his house number and the  name of his parents.

In less than 10 minutes he was cleared to take his picture after his thumb prints had been taken.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, President Akufo-Addo who was impressed with the simplified nature of the registration, asked all who are yet to register, to do so.

The President said his work over the past three and half years will secure him another term.

Meanwhile President Akufo-Addo has begun a three day working visit to the Eastern Region
