President Akufo-Addo, says he prefers a media landscape in Ghana that is diverse in its reportage to one that is uninformed in its work.

He said he is encouraged by the continuing vibrancy and diversity of the Ghanaian media since it is the foundation of a democratically open society.

President Akufo-Addo said this when a delegation from the Ghana Journalists Association called on him at the Jubilee House.

The delegation which included Treasurer Audrey Dakalu 2018 Journalist of the Year, Doreen Hammond of the Daily Graphic and the 2017 journalist of the year, Kwame Sefa Kayi was to thank the President for opening the recently held conference of African Journalists leaders in Accra.

The GJA also used the occasion to thank the government for donating a VW saloon car to the 2020 Journalist of the Year.

President of the Association, Roland Affail Monney, requested the government to come to the aid of the media in the country to mitigate the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on them.

As part of the mitigating measures, the GJA asked government to waive spectrum and regulatory fees for broadcasting institutions for one year, waive corporate tax on wages of media practitioners for three months and injection of funds into the private media to the tune of five million cedis to help them to recover.

President Akufo-Addo in response assured the GJA their proposals will be given the needed attention.

He said his government will continue to protect free speech.

The President hoped the visit by the GJA will be a regular one.
