Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, O.B. Amoah says only one million Ghana cedis was allocated to the NCCE for public education on the referendum.

Though he could not give the exact figure spent so far in the engagement and public education, Mr. Amoah said no contract was awarded for bill board advertisements.

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, ‘FOCUS’, Mr. Amoah said the ballot papers had already been printed, before the cancellation was announced.

The Deputy Local Government Minister said the President took the decision to call off the referendum after consultation with some recognised professional bodies.

For his part, Dean of Studies at the Institute of Local Government Studies, Frederick Agyarko- Oduro said multi-party democracy is the best way to go and therefore cancellation of the referendum should not mean introducing partisan politics at the grass root is not possible in Ghana.
