Upper West RCC opens book of condolence for J.J. Rawlings

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih has signed a book of condolence opened for the Former President and the Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), H.E Jerry John Rawlings at Wa.

The opening of the book of condolence is in line with directives from the President to undertake national activities to mourn the passing of the Former President.

Dr Bin Salih wrote, praising the efforts of the Former President in creating the Upper West Region from the Upper Region in January 1983. “You created the Upper West Region in January 1983. For this reason, you will remain in the thoughts of the people of the region. Rest in peace, Flt. Lt. Rawlings,” he wrote.

He said the creation of the region led to rapid infrastructural and socio-economic development of the people of the Upper West Region.

Dr Bin Salih said the regional administration is lining up activities to celebrate the life and influence of Former President Jerry John Rawlings.

“We are still putting our thoughts together. Once we are able to finalize those thoughts, I would discuss with the Chief of Staff, once approval is given then we can also carry on some activities here,” he said.

Present at the short and solemn ceremony was the Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku.

He wrote, “You contributed your part in the development of mother Ghana. Even though as human you have your low marks, I will remember you for the creation of the Upper West Region from the then Upper Region among other. Rest Well J.J Rawlings; Your Excellency”.


Also present to sign the book of condolence were members of the Upper West Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and some Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region.

Also expected to sign the book of condolence are the leaders of all political parties present in the Upper West Region, Traditional and Religious leaders as well as the members of the public.
