Security and International Relations Analyst, Adib Saani, has described the US Visa restrictions on Ghana as very worrying and a dent on the age long bilateral relations between both countries.

Speaking to Cecil Obodai Wentum on GBC’s UNIIQ Breakfast Drive, Mr. Saani advised that the earlier both parties reach an agreement, the better to prevent the situation from escalating beyond repair.

He said the move reinforces the US’s pledge for zero tolerance for illegal immigration especially from sub-Sahara Africa which is usually negligible.

His comment follows an announcement by DHS that it is implementing visa sanctions on Ghana.

In a release dated January 31, 2019, it explained that the sanctions are as a result of Ghana’s failure to accept its nationals who are to be removed from the U.S.

“Ghana has failed to live up to its obligations under international law to accept the return of its nationals ordered removed from the United States,” Secretary of DHS Kirstjen Nielsen quoted in the release.
