The National Chairman for the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Mr. Stephen Ayesu Ntim has promised party faithfuls and the entire Ghanaian populace that, the current government under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, shall in due course fix the economy and put it back on its glorious path as they have done before.

The economy, Mr. Ntim admitted, was not in a good and glorious state due to the unprecedented COVID-19 and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia but has assured Ghanaians that, the NPP, has done it before and will deliver again by restoring the economy to its good old days. He mentioned that the NPP has a track record of restoring damaged economies from the administration of John Agyekum Kufuor to that of President Akufo-Addo.

“Similarly, we are finding solutions to our current economic difficulties. We shall fix the economy. We have done it before in 2001 and 2017. We will fix the economy again. We did what was needed to be done to save lives. We are tackling the economy and with the kind of support of our hardworking citizenry, we shall fix this one too”, he said.

In a press statement, the National Chairman rebutted all allegations leveled against the ruling government on overborrowing and incompetence. He stated categorically that, the debt percentage the NPP government under President Akufo-Addo has accrued to that of the hundred and twenty-two billion Ghana Cedis is only three hundred and four percent.

According to Chairman Ntim, the debt is as a result of the monies paid to cushion depositors who suffered under the banking sector clean-ups the Finance Ministry championed and also debts paid under the COVID-19 period. He stressed that challenges and problems are inevitable when you are administering the affairs of even your family.

He, however, stated that leadership lies in the confrontation and having these problems solved as and when they arise. The leadership of the country under President Akufo-Addo, had COVID-19 problems solved and fixed and solutions are currently underway to help solve the economic crisis hanging around the neck of the country.

Chairman Ntim further clarified stories that were going round and taking media space that the government has not reduced its overweight size. He stated that the Akufo-Addo government is a listening government and has since his inception as President in 2017 reduced the size of his government from hundred and twenty-six to eighty-six.

“The government has addressed the call to reduce its size and you are all witnesses to it. Indeed between this government’s first and second terms, the number of Ministers and Deputy Ministers have been significantly reduced from a hundred and twenty-six to eighty-six. This is because we are a listening government, he added.
