Lawyers for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, and Akonta Mining have accused the prosecution of failing to release important documents needed for their defence.

The two are standing trial over allegations that they allowed mining activities on their Samreboi concession without the necessary approvals.

The case, which came up on Tuesday, November 25, was expected to focus on case management ahead of the full trial. But lead defence lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, told the court that they would be filing a formal application to demand additional documents from the prosecution.

According to him, some key materials were missing from the disclosures the State submitted on October 31 and November 11. He said the defence expected extra documents, including those the prosecution may not use as evidence but could still help the accused in preparing their case.

Appiah-Kubi explained that although the defence had already drafted a motion requesting full disclosure, it had not been filed yet, and they needed more time.

The presiding judge instructed the defence to file the motion and serve it on the prosecution when ready. The court also ordered the accused persons to provide the names and addresses of all witnesses they plan to call if the prosecution is able to establish a prima facie case.

The case has been adjourned to December 8, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., when the court will hear the defence’s application for additional disclosures.
