President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Auditor-General to begin an immediate and comprehensive forensic investigation into the $245 million reportedly spent on Ghana’s hosting of the 13th All African Games held from March 4 to March 23, 2024.

This directive aims to ensure full transparency and accountability regarding financial management related to the event.

The decision follows growing public and parliamentary concern over the large budget allocated for the Games.

The overall expenditure amounted to $245 million, a figure that has sparked debates over how funds were distributed and utilized during the organization of the continental sporting event.

Detailed budget breakdowns reveal that approximately $195 million was directed towards infrastructure development, upgrading sports facilities, and related construction works necessary for hosting the Games.

Feeding athletes accounted for $15 million, covering meals and nutrition during the competition period.

Operational costs, including transportation, logistics, and event management, consumed around $48 million.

These costs have drawn scrutiny from various stakeholders questioning the efficiency and necessity of such high spending categories. The forensic audit is expected to clarify these concerns.

  1. The ORAL promise should be fulfilled and the Attorney General was expected to act on all the issues. Why not let EOCO or OSP do the investigation for a better outcome. This Auditor General whose work can not be trusted and his report are misleading and errors and hasn’t disallowed or surcharge anybody since he was appointed. Ghana deserves better!
