The Simon Diedong Dombo Foundation for Development and Leadership studies has made a passionate appeal to government to as matter of urgency to provide seed money to the newly established S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development studies (UBIDS).

This is to help address the infrastructural and human resource deficit of the university.

The Programme Coordinator for the Foundation, Mohammed Dombo, made the appeal when he presented some veronica buckets to the University.

Mr Dombo said they are aware of the infrastructure and human resource deficits that the new university is confronted with. He also thanked the staff of the school who have worked tirelessly to bring the UDS Wa campus to a fully-fledged university.

“We appreciate your sacrifices because these sacrifices brought us to the point that Naa Simon Diedong Dombo could be honored in this special way. We are grateful once again to the President, Government and people of Ghana for the honour,” he added.

The Programme Coordinator Mohammed Dombo pointed out that the Foundation is mandated to facilitate community development, advocate for food security and good environmental governance and also train appreciative leaders to serve Ghana.

Mr Dombo however observed that the country is not in normal times and there is the need for the foundation to play its part.

He said the foundation is currently supporting the Ghana Health Service, communities and the Upper West RCC in line with the Presidents call for all Ghanaians to contribute to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Dombo indicated that the virus is no respecter of persons and that we have a responsibility to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

“We all have the responsibility to ourselves and our loved ones. It is undeniable fact that a sound mind is in a healthy body. We need good health to have peace of mind. We are very much aware of the global effects of the virus and the measures nations, government organisations and individuals are putting in place to curtail the spread of the virus.”

“The foundation is here today to show solidarity during this challenging time. On behalf of S.D. Dombo Foundation, Duori Naa and the people of Duori, I present the following items to SDD-UBIDS: Three vorinica buckets, stands, six gallons of liquid soap, and 3 hands washing buckets,” Mr Mohammed Dombo observed.

The Vice Chancellor Professor, Philip Duku Osei thanked the Foundation for its kind gesture and reiterated the need for the Foundation to call on President Akufo-Addo to provide a seed money for the university to complete the unfinished projects.

“We are also happy to hear from your speech you mentioned the issue of seed money. This is an issue that we will be very happy to see it on the national agenda and also pursue appropriately to ensure that there is seed money for this university because we have a number of unfinished projects, about eight of them.

Professor Philip Duku Osei said the completion of the projects will significantly improve the capacity of the University in receiving and training students that will be coming out from the free senior high school.

Apart from the SDD-UBIDS, the Foundation also presented Veronica buckets, stands and liquid soap to the RCC, GBC Radio Upper West, Jirapa Municipal Health Directorate, Duori Health Center, Dagri-Tangzu and Tamaapuo CHPS compound. The country has a worrying situation of over nine thousand confirmed COVID-19 cases with 42 deaths.
