Relatives of missing Takoradi girls say the DNA results confirming that human remains found in a well are those of their relatives is false. According to them, the move is only a ploy to bring the case to an end.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong-Boanuh at a press conference on Monday, September 16, 2019 said the results from the DNA test, conducted matches with the four missing Takoradi girls.

According to the acting IGP, they were murdered by a serial killing syndicate which operated in the Western Region, majority of its members as Nigerians.

Mother of one the girls, Ruth Love Quayson said the remains should be brought to them so that they can also handle it their own way.

An uncle to Ruthlove also discarded the confirmation and also called on the police to release the remains.

According to GBC’s reporter, Marie Aziz Tunde, residents still are of the view that the remains are not those of the missing girls and therefore support calls by the relatives to continue to investigate especially on the heals that at a point, it was mentioned that the girls were in Nigeria.

Background

Miss Abeka was reported missing on July 29, 2018. The second victim, Ms. Priscilla Bentum went missing on August 15, 2018. On December 4, 2018, Ms. Ruth Love Quayson, the third girl, was reported missing. The disappearance of the fourth victim, Ms. Priscilla Mantebea Kurankye was reported to the Police on December 21, 2018.

The police said on December 22, 2018, a day after the disappearance of Mantebea, the Police was tracked a number through which a ransom money was said to have been paid. This led to the arrest of suspect Samuel Uduatuk Wills to assist with the investigation.

The police further stated that Samuel Wills later escaped from Police custody on December 30, 2018 but was re-arrested three days later in an uncompleted building at Nkroful, a suburb of Takoradi.

He was convicted for escaping from lawful custody and brought to the CID headquarters whereupon interrogation he admitted that he, together with suspects John Orji and John Chika, kidnapped the young girls and sent them by road to a location in Nigeria known as “Baby Factory” in Anambra State in Nigeria.

He, however, denied knowledge of the whereabouts of Ruth Abeka. That’s according to the IGP in a statement.
