The Concerned Sisala Citizens in the Upper West region have demonstrated against the citing of a Wood processing facility at Tumu.

They contend that the establishment of the mill will defeat the purpose of banning the felling of rosewood by government.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, a leading member of the demonstrators, who is also a Chief Research Scientist at the Savannah Agriculture Institute at Nyamkpala, Professor Rojer Kanton observed that if the people behind the facility and their Chinese counterparts are not stopped, the people of the area will bear the brunt of the fall out.

On the issue of fertilizer smuggling, Professor Kanton said it has reduced significantly. This is as a result of government’s intervention.

He was quick to add that the smuggling menace cannot be done overnight, but requires a sustained effort to better the lot of farmers in the area.
