Road crashes claim 145 lives in Brong-Ahafo Region

The Brong-Ahafo Region has recorded 225 road crashes that resulted to 145 deaths and 288 injuries in the first quarter of this year.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Stephen Tenkorang, the Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Sunyani, that it involved 108 commercial vehicles, 47 private vehicles and 78 motor cycles.

He said 114 among the dead were males and 31 females while 123 were above 18 years and 22 below 18 years, adding that, fatal cases were 65, serious crashes 60 and 31 minors with 24 being knockdowns.

 DSP Tenkorang said MTTD would intensify education and enforcement of road traffic regulations to reduce road crashes to ensure the safety of pedestrians and other road users.

He charged drivers to be more professional and responsible by religiously obeying traffic rules and regulations to reduce the rate of road carnage in the country.

DSP Tenkorang advised passengers also to refrain from distracting the attention of drivers and urged vehicle owners to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles.
