The Assemblyman for the Padmore Electoral area in the Tema Metropolis, Charles Amos says the assembly will fine people in the area who flout sanitation laws one thousand Ghana Cedis.

The assembly will also reward those who report people who flout the laws with a percentage of the fine.

Mr. Amos said these are part of measures to be rolled out by the Assembly to make Tema clean. He made this known during a clean up exercise organised by the Living A Life of Cleanliness, LALOC, Foundation, a sanitation focused NGO.

The clean up exercise dubbed “Pick Up Float” is an initiative of the first runner up of the Miss Metro Tema 2018, Ernestina Dika.

Over the years, the Miss Metro Ghana Foundation has used the beauty pageantry as a tool to create awareness on the need to keep the environment clean.

Miss Dika is carrying out this initiative through the Living A Life of Cleanliness, LALOC Foundation.

The excercise focused on areas around the Tema Sports Stadium and Obonu FM. She said the response has been positive.

“The response has been great beacuse the communitymembers have joined us to clean. So if anyone could partner with me or anyone with such motives it will go a long way……..if people come the the principal areas of Tema and find the place filthy, it will not augur well with us.”

The Assemblyman for the Padmore Electoral area, Charles Amos said a Thousand Ghana Cedis fine will be imposed on those who flout sanitation laws in the area.

“We are going to put sign posts here with the inscription ‘no dumping of refuse here’. If you are caught, you pay GH1,000…..everybody is going to be a watchdog now, whoever reports any one dunping refuse indiscriminately and reports, I will make sure the Assembly rewards that person with a percentage of the fine”.

He called on residents to be vigilant and report those who dump refuse indiscriminately in the area.
