Six suspects remanded over Asiakwa murder case

The Kyebi District Court presided over by her Lordship, Alice Afua Yirenkyi has remanded the six suspects accused of murdering a 55-year old teacher of the Salvation Army Basic School, George Bosompem at Asiakwa in the Eastern Region into prison custody to reappear on July 30, 2019, awaiting the Attorney General’s advice.

The accused are; Richard Amenu, Emmanuel Mireku, Philip Kodei, Ofei Frimpong, Ezekiel Boadu and Evans Aboakye.

The Prosecutor, Margaret Kontor disclosed to the court that, she is making efforts to send a duplicate copy of the dockets to the Attorney General’s office for advice.

She however prayed the court remand the suspects, a request which was granted by the Judge.

With regard to the contradiction of the ages of the accused persons, the lawyer for the accused, Peter Nimo told GBC Sunrise FM that, he did not know their exact age during the previous court proceedings, but after meeting them personally, he realized that some of them are above eighteen years.

He also indicated that he has applied for bail for his clients at the high court indicating that his application will be held on July 5, this year.

The Eastern Regional Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Daniel Affadu is hopeful that justice will prevail for deceased who was a member of GNAT.

He also expressed satisfaction on the proceedings of the case so far and urged the media not to relent on their efforts to follow the case until the final verdict is pronounced by the court.

Mr. Affadu also appealed to the government and the security agencies to take the case seriously since it has assumed a national dimension.

Some of the family members of the deceased in an interview with our correspondent indicated that they will remain calm until judgement is given.

They also expressed the hope that the case will not be politicized but the law will be allowed to work for justice to prevail for their lost one.

Meanwhile, the family has announced that the final funeral rites of the late, George Bosompem, will be held on 26th of  next month at Asiakwa while the remains will be laid to rest at his home town at Kwahu Mpraeso on July 27.

The late George Somuah Bosompem allegedly incurred the wrath of the six accused following a misunderstanding ensued between them.

The deceased accused them of stealing school farm produce and threatened to report them to the Police.

They however, accosted him in the vicinity and assaulted him resulting in his death
