The Teshie Bush road Estates is engulfed in stench emanating from faecal matter that runs through drains in the area.

Residents believe the faecal matter is discharged from one of the households in the area into the main drain, polluting the air and entire surroundings.

When GBC’s Radio Ghana visited the area, the stench was unbearable however efforts to get the landlord to address the problem have proved futile.

Community members have resorted to washing their drains twice daily to clear faeces in them as a way of reducing the stench.

Some residents who spoke to Radio Ghana said the practice has been going on for more than eight months.

They maintain a complaint has been lodged with the Ledzokuku Municipal Environmental Health Directorate but the situation is yet to be addressed.

The Ledzokuku Municipal Environmental Health Director, James Nyanga, admitted being aware of the complaint.

He said although the caretaker has constructed a Bio-digester and is transferring the pipes into it, he should have sought the assistance of the Environmental Health and Waste Management Unit to ensure the right thing is done.

Mr. Nyanga said the assistance of a biochemist is being sought to check the quality of waste water discharged from the bio digester.

He urged residents to exercise restraint as the Department ensures sanity prevails.
