Abubakari Mahama is the newly en-skinned Yaa Naa and Overlord of the Kingdom of Dagbon in the Northern region of Ghana. He was elected on 18 January 2019 by the Kingmakers of Dagbon and ascended to the throne on 25 January 2019 as the 44th King of Dagbon traditional area after 17 years of vacuum.
In solidarity with the Overlord of Dagbon and his people, many guests wore the traditional smock. January 25 caps a long process meant to douse the embers of the past and open a new page of peace in Dagbon.
Early life
He was born in 1939 at Yendi as the second child of Queen Duhili Ayishetu, daughter of Kulunkpe-Naa Abukari. He was first appointed to the Kpunkpuno skin, then to the Gate skin of Savelugu in 2011 from where he rose to the Kingship of Dagbon, known as Yani.
