Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea is in mourning after winger Dominic Frimpong, 20, died from gunshot wounds in a horrific armed robbery ambush on the team bus.

The attack unfolded on the Bibiani-Goaso road at Ahyiresu, shortly after their match against FC Samartex. Masked gunmen blocked the road, fired on the bus as the driver reversed, and sent players and staff scattering into nearby bushes for safety.

Frimpong, a breakout talent this season with two goals in 13 appearances, took a fatal headshot and was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Several teammates and officials remain missing after fleeing into the forest, their whereabouts unknown amid the chaos.

The club confirmed the nightmare in a statement, praising the rapid police response, local shelter in Ahyiresu, Bibiani Gold Stars’ aid, sports journalists, and Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku.

Frimpong’s flair had lit up the pitch for the Blues, marking him as a rising star whose life was cut short in senseless violence. This robbery exposes the perilous roads haunting Ghanaian football teams, turning a routine trip home into a fight for survival.

As searches continue for the missing and investigations probe the attackers, the football family rallies. Tributes pour in for Frimpong, whose passion embodied the dreams of young talents nationwide.

Berekum Chelsea urges calm and unity, vowing to honor their fallen son. Ghana football must now confront these dangers head-on, ensuring no more lives are lost to the shadows beyond the stadium lights.
