Veep Dr. Bawumia challenges army to redouble intelligence efforts

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has challenged the Ghana Army to redouble its  intelligence gathering efforts and stand in readiness in order not to be overtaken by events in the wake of security threats in the Sub region and beyond.

 

Speaking at a dual ceremony to mark the Ghana Army Week Celebration and the inauguration of the New Army Headquarters Annex Offices, Vice President Bawumia reiterated government’s commitment to provide the Army with the needed logistics to help them carry out their counter terrorism operations.

 

 

The Vice President also cut the sod for the construction of a new Army Headquarters Complex Army. 

 

The Ghana Army Week is observed annually to create the platform for close collaboration and also help re-energise all ranks to continually give off their best.

 

Vice President Dr. Bawumia said the importance of drilling displayed by the army cannot be overestimated as the Army’s, ability to move and act as a team without confusion depended on it.

 

He assured the Officers of government resolve to work closely with the Military High Command to ensure that logistics and operational needs including equipment, clothing and accommodation are adequately met and on time for operations.

He urged them to be alert in these time of security threats.

Meanwhile, the Vice President has outdoored the New Army Headquarters Annex Offices and also cut the sod to begin the construction of a new Army Headquarters Complex Army.

The Annex building has about 30 offices, 3 conference rooms and an amoury among others.

 

Vice President Bawumia said this will further create a conducive environment for the men in uniform to operate effectively as most of the day are spent in the office.

The idea to establish the complex was mooted by Major Francis Ofori and Mr. Godfred Andoh to build a befitting space for officers at the Army Headquarters.

The Ministry of Defence also supported the project with one hundred thousand dollars.

The Chief of Army Staff Maj. Gen. William Azure Ayamdo presented a citation to Mr. Andoh for his selfless gesture.

The building will be named after the late Major General Odartey Wellington.
