Vice-President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Thursday January 22, 2026 paid a working visit to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to engage officials on strengthening coordination between the Presidency and government ministries.

The visit forms part of the Vice-President’s broader engagement with first-time ministers to close operational gaps between government agencies and ensure smoother implementation of national priorities.

She was received by Sports Minister Kofi Iddie Adams, Chief Director Wilhelmina Asamoah, agency heads and staff, alongside Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.

During the engagement, the minister  presented a detailed briefing on the Ministry’s 2025 interventions and 2026 outlook, highlighting reforms in sports safety, athlete welfare, financial management and infrastructure development under the Reset Agenda of President John Dramani Mahama.

In her response, the Vice-President commended the Ministry for its detailed reporting and encouraged a results-driven approach rooted in disciplined execution and accountability. She called to attention the importance of open communication across departments and inclusive engagement with stakeholders.

She also acknowledged the contributions of frontline workers and behind-the-scenes staff whose efforts often go unnoticed but remain critical to the sector’s performance.

The Vice-President further noted the need to prioritize human relations, staff wellness and safe sporting environments. She called for strong screening standards and enhanced security protocols at sporting venues.

Officials described the engagement as part of a renewed push to align government communication structures with service delivery targets, improve policy coordination and ensure faster response times across ministries.

The Sports Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining dialogue with the Presidency while strengthening internal systems to deliver improved outcomes for Ghana’s sports sector.
