Wa: Police say yet to record Covid-19 case

The Upper West Regional Police Command says it is yet to record any case of the Coronavirus.

It also said that no police officer or inmate in the police cells has been quarantined because of suspicion of the COVID-19 infection.

Speaking to the media at a brief ceremony before the disinfection of police stations and barracks at Wa, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Aboagye Nyarko, said the regional police administration will continue to adhere to the health protocols that have been put in place.

He added that the police will also continue to enforce the law to ensure that the public adhere to the health protocols to stem the rising cases of the disease.

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development together with Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Ghana Police administration are carrying out a disinfection exercise across all police stations and barracks across the country.

The exercise, taking place concurrently across the Upper West Region, is to help in the fight against the Coronavirus.

The Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Aboagye Nyarko, commended the government for the initiative saying “we are highly delighted to congregate here to witness the regional disinfection exercise by Zoomlion Ghana Limited”.

“As part of measures by the police administration to combat the spread of COVID-19, it has taken the decision to have all our facilities, offices and barracks disinfected. This disinfection exercise is laudable. It is going to give us the courage to work in a COVID-19 free environment.”

The Upper West Regional Manager for Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Emmanuel Volsuuri, commended the police service for their dedication to enforcing the law during this period.

He said the disinfection is to assist the police service execute their jobs effectively.

“The purpose of this exercise is to ensure that most of these facilities are safe for use. We are all aware of the damage that the COVID-19 has caused worldwide and even in the country. The police are an important organisation, by their work they interact with the public so they are equally at risk. It is important to disinfect their facilities so that it can protect them,” he explained.

Some executives from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development were present.
