The Minority Spokesperson on Water and Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Works and Housing, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, has described the intermittent water shortage in parts of Greater Accra as “bad” as residents battle with coronavirus.

Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, who is also MP for Ho West, in a press statement said, “it’s sad to be recording water shortage nowadays in the Capital City, Accra, which is the most populous city, and for that matter the epicenter of the coronavirus cases in Ghana.”

He stressed that, the situation has compounded over the past week with a “nauseating water shortage which really biting hard without any explanation from the Authorities in charge.”

According to him, “the situation which seems to be getting out of hand in areas such as Adenta, Madina, Teshie, La, Achimota, Ashaiman, Tema and Kasoa is literally rendering our country’s fight against the pandemic not only ridiculous but also fruitless.”

On Sunday, April 5, The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, announced government’s decision to absorb water bills for all Ghanaians for the months of April, May and June following complaints of lack of portable drinking water in many communities affected by the 14-day lockdown.

But Mr. Bedzrah however questioned the free water to citizens as announced by the President and added that, “the Minority Caucus would like to find out from the government why water promised Ghanaians, particularly those living in Accra and its environs, is not being made available as announced”.
