Work begins on agro-processing plant at Jasikan in the Volta Region

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has cut the sod for the construction of an Agro-Processing plant in the Jasikan District of the Volta Region.

The 50 million dollar project which is sited on a 50 acre land is being undertaken by a business entity, Trust Works Consult with support from the Jasikan District Assembly as part of government’s flagship One District -One Factory initiative.

It is scheduled to be executed in two phases, with the first or production phase expected to be completed within 18 months and the second or entire phase to end in five years. Dr Afriyie Akoto who was on a working visit to the Volta Region, reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring economic growth through the agriculture sector.

He said his Ministry is in the process of securing a 220 million dollar credit facility for investment into farm machinery, as well as improve access roads in farming communities to help boost the sector.

The Head of the Project Implemention team, Kofi Ayirebi, said the project will provide job avenues for a large number of people in the region.
