Work towards achieving Single African Air Transport Market- Veep Dr. Bawumia tells Aviation sector players

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has challenged industry players in the Aviation sector in Africa to work towards achieving the Single African Air Transport Market.

He indicated with the coming on stream of the Inter-Continental Free Trade Agreement, stakeholders especially in the Aviation sector must explore opportunities thereof for mutual benefit.

Addressing participants at the opening of the International Air Transport Association, IATA Regional Forum in Accra, Vice President Bawumia also announced that talks are far advanced on the national carrier for the country.

Statistics from IATA show that Africa is set to become one of the fastest growing aviation regions in the next two (2) decades as demand for air transport will double.

However, to achieve this, member states need to show more interest to stimulate growth and expand opportunities for job creation.

The Vice President, Africa and Middle East IATA, Mohammed Al-Bakri said Africa’s expected growth in Aviation will demand effective infrastructure and called for stronger partnership among members.

He also outlined some challenges that still persist in the industry.

The Minister of Aviation, Joseph Kofi Addamentioned some ongoing projects to boost growth in the country Ghana’s Aviation sector.

Vice President Dr. Bawumia noted that Ghana shares a common interest in maximizing aviation benefits.

This is why the  government has shown commitment towards creating an enabling economic environment and political willingness to mainstream and reflect the priorities of the aviation sector in the global, regional and national agenda.

He urged stakeholders to walk the talk and change the fortunes of Aviation in the Sub region in the wake of the Inter- Continental Free Trade Agreement,

The two day event which focused on Aviation, business for regional prosperity will enable stakeholders share experience from to chart a way forward for sector.

Discussions will be centered on promoting sustainable air transport solutions and economic development planning for West and Central African States among others.
