Good morning your Excellency,
I write to you in all humility, and as a concerned Ghanaian.
Your Excellency, in this season of profound grief, our nation stands still, united in sorrow over the tragic loss of eight of our gallant servicemen in last Wednesday’s helicopter crash. These were not just names on a list; they were fathers, brothers, colleagues, and sons of the land who rose each day to serve Ghana with unwavering devotion.
As we mourn, their families carry a weight heavier than any of us can truly imagine — a grief now deepened by the repeated and widespread sharing of graphic images from the crash site. Each click, each forward, each repost tears open wounds that are still raw, robbing these heroes of the dignity they earned in life and deserve in death.
Your Excellency, while some of these images may have first been shared in the name of public information, their continued circulation serves only to overshadow the honour, courage, and sacrifice of these men. They should not be remembered in their final, vulnerable moments, but in the fullness of their service — standing tall in uniform, serving with pride, their faces alight with duty.
I respectfully appeal to you to use your voice and authority to rally our media, institutions, and citizens to replace these distressing images with dignified portraits — images that their children can treasure, that their families can hold close without pain, and that our nation can look upon with pride for generations to come.
By taking this step, we will not only preserve the memory of our heroes but also send a powerful message: that Ghana is a nation that honours its fallen, protects its grieving, and upholds the sacred dignity of those who give their lives in service to us all.
Respectfully,
Gifty Adjei
