On Saturday, December 20, 2025, the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra was transformed into the epicenter of Ghanaian boxing as The Showdown, also known as the Legacy Rise Boxing Showdown, delivered a historic night of sporting excellence, prestige and national pride.

Organized by Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Rise Sports and son of President John Dramani Mahama, the event marked a significant milestone in the evolution of professional boxing in Ghana. Under the floodlights of the Legon Sports Stadium, fans witnessed not just fierce competition in the ring, but the rise of a new era for local boxing promotion.

The evening featured thrilling bouts headlined by standout Ghanaian fighters including Jonathan Tetteh, Theophilus Allotey, Dan Azeez, Seth Gyimah, Craig Richards, Raquinel and others, each showcasing skill, resilience and the fighting spirit that continues to place Ghana on the global boxing map. Every punch, cheer and victory reflected months of preparation and years of dedication to the sport.

Adding to the grandeur of the night was the presence of distinguished personalities. The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, graced the event alongside the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams. Also in attendance was renowned Ghanaian business mogul Ibrahim Mahama, among other high-profile dignitaries, whose presence underscored the national significance of the event.

From ringside moments of intense focus to celebratory scenes of triumph, The Showdown was more than a boxing event it was a powerful statement about investment in youth, sports development, and Ghana’s growing influence in international boxing.

As the final bell rang and the crowd erupted in applause, one message was clear: The Showdown was not just a night to remember, but a legacy in the making.
