Ashanti Region gets best and worst district in District League Rankings

The Asante Akim North Municipality has emerged the highest ranked district in the 2019 District League Table, while the Asokore Mampong Municipality came last.

For the Regional rankings, the Greater Accra Region came top while Eastern region was ranked the lowest.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, the UNICEF representative to Ghana Anne-Claire Dufay said the objective of the league table is to provide government wigh a better understanding of the disparities in resource allocation at the local level.

This will enable government planthe development of the country equally.

The two districts that came first and last are both located in the Ashanti region and separated by more than 72km.

The top 5 districts also featured the Sunyani municipal, Tamale Metropolitan, Nsawam Adoagyiri and Cape Coast Metropolitan districts Assemblies.

The La-Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly emerged as the highest ranked district in the greater Accra Region, ranked 12.

There were a number of new indicators for this year’s report, which includes the percentage of under one year old children registered by the vital registration system.The UNICEF representative to Ghana, Anne-Claire Dufay explained the objective of the report.

“Asante Akim North Municipal, an unknown district in the Ashanti region is ranked first while the district with the lowest ranking is Asokore Mampong District in the same region. The District League Table is a holistic multi-sectoral approach that we use to provide evidence for enhanced decision making”

Deputy Director for CDD Ghana, Dr. Franklin Oduro said the report is not to name and shame any district.

Stakeholders at the launch agreed not to compare the rankings for this year with previous years because the methodology used for this year is different.

The report is a collaborative initiative between UNICEF and the Center for Democratic Development, CDD.
