Ghana’s Black Queens have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a hard fought 4-1 victory against Tanzania in their final group game on Monday, July 14, 2025. The Queens knew a win was essential to stay alive in the competition and started the match with high intensity, quickly putting pressure on their East African opponents.

The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when Princella Adubea capitalized on a clearing error from the Tanzanian goalkeeper to give Ghana an early lead. However, Tanzania fought back before halftime, with Stumai Abdallah scoring from a poorly cleared free-kick to level the score and bring the game back to parity.

In the second half, Ghana regained control as Princess Marfo’s attacking threat unsettled the Tanzanian defense. The Bay FC forward was fouled inside the box midway through the half, allowing Alice Kusi to convert the resulting penalty and put Ghana ahead once again. Substitute Evelyn Badu then extended the lead after a Grace Nyamekye free-kick fell kindly to the ex-Hasaacas Ladies star.

The Black Queens sealed their victory in the final moments when Chantelle Boye Hlorkah curled home a beautiful goal to make it 4-1, ensuring a comfortable win and a place in the knockout stages. The confident performance demonstrated Ghana’s determination to progress further in the tournament.

Next up for the Black Queens is a quarter-final clash against Algeria, where they will look to build on their impressive group stage showing. With their place in the last eight secured, Ghana now turns its focus to the challenge ahead as they aim to make a deep run in the 2024 WAFCON.
