Abdul-Rasheed Saminu broke the Ghanaian national record and claimed the world lead for the year in the 100-meter dash with a stunning time of 9.86 seconds at the NCAA East Prelims. The race, saw Saminu blazing past competitors with incredible speed, highlighting his status as one of the fastest sprinters globally this season.

Saminu’s remarkable run was just 0.04 seconds shy of the NCAA Record held by American sprinter Christian Coleman. His blazing time not only set a new Ghanaian record but also positioned him as the fastest man in the world for 2025, surpassing other top contenders and clocking the best time globally this year.

The Jamaican sprinter Kanyinsola Ajayi finished second in the race with a personal best of 9.95 seconds, but Saminu’s performance clearly stole the spotlight. His dominant display of speed and agility has raised expectations for his performance in upcoming international competitions, including the World Championships.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for Saminu and Ghanaian athletics, showcasing the nation’s rising talent in sprinting. His impressive time demonstrates his potential to challenge world records and compete at the highest levels, inspiring young athletes across Ghana and Africa.
