Arsenal have confirmed that talks are ongoing with Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey over a potential new contract, amid reports linking him with a move to Barcelona.

The club said discussions are underway with the 31-year-old, whose current deal expires on 30 June. The move signals Arsenal’s intent to retain key players while preparing for changes ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Partey has been a vital part of Arsenal’s recent success, particularly last season, when he made 52 appearances across all competitions—his highest tally since joining from Atlético Madrid in 2020. He contributed four goals and three assists, underlining his importance in Mikel Arteta’s midfield.

Following the release of the club’s retained list, Arsenal addressed the future of several players with expiring contracts. In a statement, they said: “Discussions are ongoing, and once matters are finalized between all parties, we will communicate in due course,”
referring to Partey alongside Chloe Kelly and Michal Rosiak.

The club also confirmed the departure of several senior players, including Raheem Sterling, Kieran Tierney, Neto, and Jorginho, as part of a broader strategy to reshape the squad and make room for emerging talents and new signings.

With both the Premier League title and UEFA Champions League campaigns in focus, manager Mikel Arteta is aiming to strengthen his squad. Partey’s future remains central to those plans as Arsenal look to build a team capable of challenging on multiple fronts.
