Ghana’s Black Queens have been nominated for the Women’s Team of the Year award ahead of the 2025 CAF Awards following their strong showing at this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The West African side secured a bronze medal, affirming their status as one of Africa’s top women’s national teams. Ghana’s nomination places them in competition with the continent’s elite, including African champions Nigeria, tournament runners-up and hosts Morocco, as well as South Africa and Tanzania.

These teams delivered impressive performances at WAFCON, making the award race highly competitive. Other contenders for the award include several under-17 women’s teams, with Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Zambia also vying for recognition.

These nominations highlight the depth and talent emerging in African women’s football across age groups. The Black Queens are set to reassemble next week to begin preparations for their WAFCON qualifier against Egypt.

After narrowly missing out on a place in the final in Morocco, Ghana’s national team is eager to make a strong comeback in the upcoming qualifiers.

Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren and rising star Stella Nyamekye have also been nominated for the Coach of the Year and Women’s Young Player of the Year awards, respectively. Their individual recognitions reflect the team’s overall growth and promising future in African women’s football.
