The Ghana Tennis Federation, in partnership with New York Square LLC, has awarded promising junior tennis talent Sisu-Makena Tomegah an elite training scholarship at Chicago’s renowned XS Tennis Academy. This significant opportunity aims to support her development as she marches on toward becoming a professional athlete on the global stage.

Her growth within Ghanaian tennis has been remarkable. She recently captured the Sydney Katz Junior Open Under-16 girls title in a thrilling comeback victory over top-seeded Tracy Ampah, winning 4–6, 6–3, 10–6 in a super tie-break. Her composure and tenacity in high-pressure matches have earmarked her as one of Ghana’s most exciting young prospects.

In a historic achievement, Tomegah also became the first Ghanaian female to win an ITF World Tour Juniors event. She triumphed over Nigeria’s Ohunene Comfort Yakubu in a demanding three-set match at the Accra tournament, thrilling a packed home crowd with a 6–2, 6–7(4), 6–2 victory. This milestone underscores her potential to make waves on the international tennis circuit.

Expressing gratitude for the scholarship, Tomegah said, “This means a lot to me. I thank God and everyone involved for recognizing my talent and giving me this incredible opportunity. It’s a big chance that I have to really hold on to.”

Richard Akpokavie, president of the Ghana Olympic Committee, highlighted the broader significance for Ghanaian sports: “This is exactly what the athlete needs. It’s a top-class facility training top-class athletes. Once she succeeds, this opens doors not only for her but for other athletes and sports disciplines in Ghana. This is just the beginning, putting Ghana’s name on the map in tennis and beyond.”
