Bibiani GoldStars Chief Executive Officer, Kwasi Adu, has defended the club’s decision to part ways with head coach Frimpong Manso, despite the coach’s historic achievement of leading the team to their first-ever Ghana Premier League title.
Adu emphasized that while Manso’s success was commendable, the club had to make a decision in its best interest. Under Manso’s leadership, the Miners were transformed from relegation candidates into league champions in just two seasons — a remarkable turnaround that earned the team a spot in continental competition.
Many view the timing and rationale for his exit as surprising, given his pivotal role in the club’s recent success. However, Adu insists the decision was necessary and aligns with common practices in global football.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Adu referenced the sacking of renowned Portuguese coach José Mourinho to highlight the uncertain nature of football management.
“Even José Mourinho was sacked, so how much more Frimpong Manso?” Adu said, emphasizing that no coach’s position is ever fully secure regardless of past achievements.
Adu further explained that the decision was driven by broader organizational factors beyond recent performance issues. He pointed to the team’s 2-0 defeat in the CAF Confederation Cup against Algerian side JS Kabylie but clarified that football results were only part of the equation.
The CEO hinted at philosophical differences between Manso and the club’s hierarchy as a key reason behind the parting.
“The decision to part ways with Coach Frimpong Manso goes beyond football,” Adu remarked, suggesting that alignment on vision and strategy played a significant role in the change.
