Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has suggested that Mohammed Kudus could be on his way to Chelsea this summer amid strong interest from the Blues and their London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. The Ghanaian attacking midfielder, currently at West Ham, has been linked repeatedly with a move to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea look to bolster Enzo Maresca’s squad following their recent signings of João Pedro and Jamie Gittens.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown acknowledged Kudus’s undeniable talent but expressed some reservations about his consistency. “I must be honest, I’ve got concerns about his consistency, and he didn’t have the best season. However, he added that clubs like Chelsea think they know how to get the best out of him, Kudus has admirers at Stamford Bridge, and they still want to bring in attacking reinforcements,” Mick Brown said.
Brown revealed that although clubs are unlikely to pay West Ham’s £80 million asking price, negotiations for a lower fee are expected. “There’s been a lot of interest in him, but these clubs aren’t going to pay £80 million for him. They’ll speak to West Ham to negotiate a lower fee, but I think it’s something they’re going to be open to because it will still be big money. Chelsea’s financial power and willingness to spend were also emphasised. With Chelsea, it feels like they can spend endless amounts of money and are prepared to do so.”
Kudus impressed in his debut Premier League season with 14 goals and six assists across all competitions but saw his output dip last season, scoring only five goals. The 24-year-old is currently on holiday in Ghana as transfer talks continue, with Chelsea reportedly ready to fund a deal by offloading players to make room in the squad. Despite interest from Tottenham and other clubs, Chelsea’s position as Champions League contenders makes them a highly attractive destination.
