Italian club Fiorentina have agreed a deal to sign Ghanaian international Tariq Lamptey from Brighton & Hove Albion for a reported €6 million plus performance-related bonuses. The 24-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract and fly to Italy this weekend to complete his move.
Fiorentina plans to use Lamptey primarily as a backup to their starting right wing-back, Brazilian Dodo, although Lamptey’s versatility allows him to play on either flank. This transfer marks a fresh start for the player, whose recent seasons at Brighton have been marred by recurring injuries.
Lamptey’s time at Brighton since his 2020 transfer from Chelsea has seen him make over 100 appearances, earning a reputation as a versatile and dynamic full-back. Despite limited appearances last season due to fitness issues only 15 league games, he contributed two goals and multiple assists.
His recent absence from Brighton’s starting squads this season further hinted at a move away, culminating in this transfer to the Italian side. Lamptey now faces a new challenge to re-establish himself in Serie A and contribute effectively to Fiorentina’s campaign.
On the international stage, Tariq Lamptey remains an important figure for Ghana. He has been named in the Ghanaian squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali scheduled for early September.
The Black Stars are currently leading their group and need strong performances from players like Lamptey to secure qualification for the tournament that will be hosted across the USA, Mexico and Canada. Lamptey’s inclusion reflects the coaching staff’s confidence in his abilities despite his club-level struggles.
Ghana’s World Cup qualifying campaign is crucial, with matches against Chad on September 4 and Mali on September 8. The team currently leads Group I, amassing solid points from previous games. Coach Otto Addo has incorporated a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, with Lamptey seen as an important part of their defensive setup.
