Ghana international defender Tariq Lamptey has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion. The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Seagulls since joining the club, accumulating 122 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals, and providing 12 assists since his debut in 2020. His commitment to the club marks an important step in Brighton’s plans for the upcoming season.

Lamptey faced challenges last season due to injuries, making only 20 appearances for Brighton. Despite limited game time, he managed to score three goals and deliver two assists, contributing to the team’s efforts even though Brighton narrowly missed out on qualifying for European competitions.

The club’s management expressed their satisfaction with the extension, emphasizing Lamptey’s importance to the squad moving forward.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler highlighted Lamptey’s versatility and impact on the team, stating, “We’re delighted Tariq is staying with us. He wants to help the team achieve our targets and gives us great options in wide areas. We are looking forward to Tariq being part of our journey next season.” His ability to play effectively on the right flank has made him a valuable asset for Brighton’s tactical setup.

Lamptey’s journey to Brighton began after a move from Chelsea during the 2019/20 season. His transfer came as a surprise following an impressive debut for Frank Lampard’s side at Arsenal. Coming through Chelsea’s youth ranks, Lamptey featured in over 50 games for the Blues before making three appearances for their senior team. His performances in the Premier League and international honours with Ghana have cemented his reputation as a promising and versatile defender.

In addition to Lamptey’s extension, Brighton has also secured contracts with several other players, including Abdallah Sima, Seb Jensen, Harry Mills, Odel Offiah and Jamie Mullins. These moves reflect the club’s strategy to build a strong squad for the future, aiming to improve their standing in the Premier League and potentially secure European football in the seasons ahead.
