Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, has arrived in Côte d’Ivoire to intensify preparations for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The team’s arrival marks a crucial step in their buildup to the continental tournament, which was delayed but is now scheduled to take place in July in Morocco. The squad landed in Abidjan on Wednesday afternoon, signaling their readiness to face international competition and fine-tune their performance.
Ahead of their upcoming friendly matches, head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has assembled a strong and focused team. The two fixtures against the Ivorian women’s national team form part of their strategic preparation plan.
These friendlies are seen as vital opportunities for the team to build cohesion, evaluate player performances, and finalize tactics before heading into the tournament. The focus remains on delivering a competitive and united performance in Morocco.
Among the players traveling to Côte d’Ivoire is Louisa Aniwaa, who has received her first call-up to the senior national team. Afi Amenyeku also joins the squad, bringing valuable experience to the lineup.
Other key players such as Nancy Amoh, Princess Marfo, and Cynthia Konlan are also with the team in Abidjan, contributing their skills and leadership during this critical phase of preparation.

The matches are scheduled to be played in Abidjan on May 30 and June 3, 2025. These fixtures will serve as crucial tests for the team as they gear up for WAFCON.
