GBC, Eastern Star Awards launches 3rd Nana Sir. Ofori Atta I National Energy Quiz

The national president of the World Energy Council Future Leaders in Ghana, Mr. Prosper Ahmed Amoaku Andoh and the Director-General of GBC, Prof. Amin Alhassan have launched the 3rd Nana Sir Ofori Atta I National Energy Quiz in Accra under the theme; “Achieving SDG 7 and 13, think Energy, Act Global, Start local”

The National Energy Quiz which is a collaboration between Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and Eastern Star Awards is aimed at creating awareness and knowledge on energy among the future generation on the social, economic, industrial and policy dimensions of energy production, consumption and conservation.

In his welcome address, Prof. Amin Alhassan said career opportunities in the energy sector is limitless, therefore it is an area the youth should look into when they make choices on what to do with their lives in future.

He said “We have deliberately targeted high school students because that is the most significant formative period when it comes to making choices on future career.”

Mr. Prosper Ahmed Andoh in his address said the goal of the event is to contribute towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 7 which seeks to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy and (SDG )13, which seeks to take urgent action to combat climate change.

He said the quiz event is to serve as a tool to create awareness, empower the next generation of this country and also offer some entertainment.

He further indicated that energy supply globally account for around 60 percent greenhouse gas emission while some 17 percent energy consumption is now met by renewable energy.

The CEO of Eastern Star Awards, Mr. Honfrey Tetteh in his address said the driving force behind the name Nana Sir. Ofori Atta I Nation Energy Quiz is great leadership.

He said the great traditional leader from the Eastern region remains our hope of combining traditional wisdom and western education and inspiring a form of leadership in the energy sector in the 21st century.

He said this year’s third edition of the National Energy Quiz will be different, bigger and globally exciting.

He said collaborating with GBC, “now acclaimed as the best source of energy information in Ghana via energy news on GTV and Radio Ghana”, means reaching out to more people on energy issues.
