Government is to construct 30 new Community ICT Centre’s, CIC’s across the country.   A hundred out of the more than 200 existing CIC’s will also be renovated and equipped with upgraded Computers and other equipment.

The Minister for Communications, Mrs.  Ursula Owusu-Ekuful announced this at the sod cutting for the 30 State of the Art CIC’s, at Akyem Asuom in the Eastern Region.

She noted that the Community ICT Centers, which is an initiative of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication, GIFEC, will provide access to ICT services in Communities without such facilities.

The Minster said the CIC’s will serve as learning center’s for the public and students and enable them to access various e-Learning Tools and Platforms even if they don’t have internet at home.  She called on District Assemblies, MPs, Public spirited individuals and Corporate Organizations to partner Government through GIFEC to ensure that every under-served and unserved community in the country becomes part of the digital society.

Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said Contractors executing the projects are to complete all 30 CIC’s within six months and will be closely monitored to ensure it is done according to schedule.
