KOPIA to cooperate with CSIR to develop technologies to improve agricultural productions

The Korea Programme on International Agriculture, KOPIA- Ghana is cooperating with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR to develop technologies to improve rice production, tomatoes cultivation and feed for the Poultry Industry.
 
A 376 thousand cedi centre has therefore been inaugurated in Accra to serve as a   starting point for Korea-Ghana agricultural Cooperation.
 
The Director- General of the CSIR, Prof. Victor Agyeman said the attainment of SDGs one and two which aims at addressing hunger and poverty, by the year 2030 largely depends on scientific interventions in agriculture.
 
He noted that the collaboration with KOPIA will address the challenge of the huge importation of rice, which is about one point- one- billion dollars last year.
 
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, George Oduro said the huge importation of rice is a burden to government and was hopeful through CSIR and KOPIA cooperation, rice production will increase.
 
The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Frimpong Boateng noted that by taking full advantage of Korean technology in rice production, Ghana can become a net exporter of rice.
 
The Deputy Head of Mission, at the Korean Embassy, Lisa Han noted that the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, signifies the government’s quest to transform the agricultural sector adding that KOPIA will play a major role in that regards.
 
The Administrator of Rural Development Administration, RDA of Korea, Ra Seungyoung was optimistic that the Centre will emulate Korea’s experience in agricultural and rural development to boost productivity in Ghana’s agricultural sector.
