NaBCO trainees deployed to start nationwide Property Address Tagging

Twelve Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty-nine Nation Builders Corps trainees have been deployed to commence the National Property Addressing Tagging Project nationwide which begins Thursday, August 8, 2019.

The six month project which is estimated at a cost of 50 million Ghana cedis is expected forge convergence for street names, house numbers and digital addresses onto a plate to be tagged at homes and other properties.

The Chief Executive Officer of NABCO, Dr. Anyars Ibrahim addressing the media in Accra said the exercise which is free of charge to all homes is part of efforts to formalize the economy and place the Ghana on the path  of growth and development.

Government as part of efforts to modernised and formalise the Ghanaian economy announced its intention to role out various initiatives such as establishing a national identification system which sits on a digital and property addressing system.

The commencement of the digital addresses of home is a manifestation of yet another promise of the government made during the 2016 election campaign.

The first phase of the project will see the NABCO trainees collect data which will be validated by all MDAs Data centers across the country for verification.

The digital plates  which will comprise of the house number, the street name and a post code or a digital address will then be embossed on the properties.

Dr. Anyars Ibrahim explains how the recruits will coordinate with other stakeholders.

Dr. Anyars Ibrahim also indicated that about 5000 hand held devices have been procured for the project.

He said households are not required to pay for the service.

Dr. Anyars Ibrahim encouraged Ghanaians to cooperate and make this project successful.

He noted that measures have also being put in place to prevent errors in the addressing system.

A minimum of 4 million houses have been targeted for tagging with average of 50 trainees assigned to each district across the country.

The digital addresses system is expected to increase access to effective security services, emergency services, e-commerce activities in the country and enhance revenue mobilization.
