Maiden Lego League National Robotics/STEM competition launched

The Ministry of Education with support from Coderina Edtech has launched this year’s first Lego League National Robotics/STEM competition. This is the second edition in Ghana and the fifth globally.

The competition seeks to imbibe in the youth the essence of STEM education in Ghana. Speaking at the launch in Accra, Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour stressed that the future is science and noted Ghana has young and skillful youth to take advantage hence the training in a form of competition.

To address national and global challenges, STEM education has become one of the key areas that has been highlighted to help achieve the set goals. Ghana is committed to reform the country’s education policy, hence through the first Lego National Robotics/STEM competition harnessing the potential of young people to create individual opportunities and strengthen the country’s economy.

 

“Just like other countries where young adults invent things, Ghana youth has the talents and skillful hands to do same so this competition sets out to train such people to help build our economy”.

According to the Deputy Education Minister, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the competition will serve as a guide to enhance all sectors of the economy.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour called on companies that will benefit most from this initiative to come on board.

“This year we hope that companies like mines and others who engage in transportation that will benefit from this will come on board and support these young ones”

This year’s competition focuses on the future of transport systems. About 66 schools would be participating in the competition. Representatives for the schools received their working materials. Last year’s edition was won by Adisadel College.
