Tech Tip: "Don't be a fish for a phisher."

Today’s tech tip on GBCGHANAONLINE, we say do not be a “fish”. Still on making you aware of the ways of hackers or scammers and all the names we call them, we bring to you Phishing (pronounced “fishing”). Maybe you have heard of it or maybe not, is not a problem.
On simple grounds, Phishing is when a hacker or scammer sends a false email or text a message which contains a link to a websites that looks genuine and legit in appearance but meant to bait you, [the victim], into providing personal, credit card, banking information and other sensitive financial information.
With the rise of mobile banking (making financial transactions on a mobile device like your cell phone, tablet, and laptops just to mention a few) which is good for convenient and faster transactions, also come with cyber security. At Techtip on GBCGHANAONLINE, we say be alert!.

Phishing is very low among the methods , easy and popular with cyber-criminals. Emails and text messages sent from these hackers can be in so many forms and it comes popularly with a link and a nice suited message that you might not even think before attending to.

Immediately you click on the link you will probably be directed to a fake legit website (The website can be in the form of your banks website, Gmail account, shopping page, and many more) which always ask for sensitive information.
In the real world, a hacker or scammer can also call you saying, “I am from ABCDEFGHIJKLF… Bank and we need your bank account number and pin code to update your account on an ongoing new system updates”. It can come in so many forms and at tech tip on GBCGHANONLINE we tell you is a bait so be careful and do not be a “fish” for a “phisher”.
As our rural banks engage in mobile banking, we should be alert of these approaches and not fall prey to these activities.
On more tips, your bank will not call you or text you to provide your account details. If possible, do your own background study and see if it’s legit or you will be ‘fished’.
When visiting any website for any transactions or information entering, make sure you are on the right genuine legit site.
