Telcos asked to simplify process towards cashlite transactions

As the country moves towards a cashlite society, it is imperative that stakeholders in the Telecom industry think about ways to simplify transactions through the use of mobile phones.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia who made this remark during the maiden edition of Mobile Technology for Development forum in Accra, said the world is evolving and Ghana cannot be left behind in the technological landscape.
He pledged the government’s commitment to creating an environment that will make the industry more vibrant.

The Mobile Technology for Development, MT4D forum seeks to create a platform for stakeholders within the financial, technology and development sector to share ideas and proffer solutions to improve innovations in payments, deposit, credit remittance among others to enhance financial inclusion in Ghana.
Vice President Bawumia said advancing financial inclusion through electronic payment has a potential positive effect towards economic stability.
He said the launch of the QR Code in a few days will further deepen the country’s financial system.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Telecoms, Ken Ashigbey said MT4D will be an annual event to brainstorm on how to leverage on mobile technology to improve service delivery.
He stressed the need for more collaboration among stakeholders to advance the financial inclusion agenda through the use of mobile technology. He also touched on mobile money charges.
The Director of Research and Financial Inclusion, Dr Setor Amediku pointed out that the Bank of Ghana has over the years introduced reforms to enhance financial service delivery.
The two-day event focused on leveraging mobile technology to drive financial inclusion.
