A Data Protection Officer with the Institute for Internet Professionals Ghana, IIPGH,  Emmanuel Gadasu, has stated that individuals’ data privacy is very important.
According to him, the more information one has about you, the more control a person could have over you.
Speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show on World Data Protection Day, which fell on January 28, 2022, Mr. Gadasu stated that it is critical for individuals to keep their data private.
“Yes, it is important because privacy is very key. In our individual lives. The more people know about you, the more control they exert over you, or they will have over you. And it is likely they would abuse that information they have about you. So, it is important that you keep it private”.
He explained that data privacy is the process by which individuals protect themselves in order to limit the amount of information about them that others need to know. Adding that data protection is a process with a life cycle.
He said any information about you that can be used to identify you is your data, and individuals are obligated to protecting that information.
“Any information about you such as your phone number,  your name,  your National Health Insurance ID Number,  Passport number and all those little information even, how you drive your car number could be linked to you. Your DNA, your voice print assuming someone is not watching right now but listening to your voice is able to identify that this is Kafui, posts you make on your social media platform all these are your personal data”.
