The Ministry of Aviation and its agencies say they have put in place robust measures to ensure the safe reopening of the Kotoka International Airport to International passenger traffic September 1.

The measures include the installation of seven temperature thermal scanners and 70 sample-taking booths, floor markings to ensure social distancing, counseling units and standby ambulances at Terminal Three.

Also adequate protocols have been put in place to ensure adequate physical distancing including wearing of nose masks, enhanced sanitation and disinfection, health screening, contact tracing and the use of passenger health declaration forms.

Minister for Aviation, Joseph Kofi Adda, while inspecting the health surveillance facilities at the Airport said the measures are in compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s Take-Off guidance for safe operations amid the coronavirus pandemic.

He announced that the reopening of the airport for international passenger will be based on the successful testing and simulation on the COVID-19 preventive installations.

Meanwhile, commercial drivers at the Airport are anticipating a return to brisk business ahead of the reopening.
