Road accidents in Eastern Region increase by 86 per cent in 2018 against 2017

Available statistics from the Eastern Regional Command of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service show that one hundred and 12 people perished through road accidents in the last quarter of 2018 as against 96 in 2017.
The number shows an increase of 86 percent of the figure recorded in 2017.
Three hundred and 44 people were involved in what the MTTD describes as fatal, serious and minor accident cases in the same period, while eight hundred and 35 people sustained various degrees of injury.
The Regional MTTD Commander, Chief Superintendent, Prince Jude Cobbinah, gave the statistics in an interview with Radio Ghana in Koforidua.
He attributed the accidents to human error.
He cautioned drivers against drunk driving, speeding and over loading.
